I believe everyone deserves a safe space in which to tell their story and be understood. My hope is that I can provide that to my clients. Therapy is a collaborative process. I work to create safety and to provide what my clients need to find the clarity they are looking for and my clients offer the courage to speak the unspoken. I believe the therapeutic process cannot be rushed. Clients will do the work they need to do when they are ready to do it and I feel grateful to get to be a part of that.
Much of my work with clients is helping them trust themselves and allow their own wants, needs, desires, and stories matter. I work with individuals, couples, and families healing from trauma. Many of my clients grew up in homes where their emotional needs were neglected or denied. I work with adults who have been harmed by relational betrayal. I work with adults looking for their sense of self and identity. I work with therapists who are experiencing burnout or who have been triggered by their own clients' therapeutic work.
I offer therapy in a few formats. You may choose traditional one-hour sessions (typically weekly or bi-weekly) and I also offer therapeutic intensives ranging from 3 hours to 4 days. Either option can be done in my office or in an outdoor setting. If you're curious which would be a good fit for you, please reach out.
The things that bring me joy in life are making art, snuggling with my kids, bird watching, hiking, binge watching TV, hot baths and laughing with friends...among many other things. The things that have brought me the most healing in my life are connecting with the outdoors, being loved by a safe partner, experiential therapy, taking solo-retreats, poetry, and cultivating friendships where I can show up as my authentic self.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alabama. I earned my M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Montevallo. I have received additional training in Expressive Arts Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Trauma Stage Processing, Psychodrama, Motivational Interviewing, The Daring Way™, Brainspotting, and The Prepare/Enrich Assessments. I have extensive experience in working with betrayed partners and couples trying to work through betrayal as well as individuals working through spiritual deconstruction.

What to Expect
DURING YOUR FIRST SESSIONS
Most people feel a little nervous about seeking counseling so it can be helpful to know a little about what to expect. The first thing you'll do is fill out some online forms that gives me a little information about you and gives you a little information about counseling. Once the paperwork is done, you'll have your first session in which you and I will collaborate on what will best meet your needs in therapy. In the first few sessions, you and I are getting to know one another. As you settle into a rhythm, we may decide on some goals. These often shift over time but this gives us both an idea of where you are headed.
LATER SESSIONS
Once you've determined some goals, you and I will begin the real work. This may involve a little digging into your family history or looking at some of the dynamics of your current relationships. You'll look at what your life has been, what it is now, and how you want it to be. Some of the work will be around giving you space to be honest about what is and isn't working in your life. This stage of counseling can be difficult and sometimes the changes you are seeking to make will disrupt your day to day life and relationships. These are the kinds of things that we will process through together.
FREQUENCY
How often you meet will be determined by a number of factors. Weekly is often ideal but sometimes scheduling and finances don't allow that. Sessions can be as infrequently as once a month if needed. We will work together to find something that both serves your therapeutic needs as well as your other life demands.
FINAL SESSIONS
There is no set number of sessions. Some clients are in counseling for a couple months, others find themselves in therapy for a few years and many fall somewhere in between. As you and I find that it's a good time to wrap up, you'll have a session to see how far you have come. You may also schedule check-in sessions every few months or so.
