Nature Therapy
Being outdoors has always been an incredible resource for me. As a little girl, nature offered a sense of wonder, adventure, and safety. Today, being outside helps me to connect with my body, clear the clutter from my mind, and access a sense of grounding.
In Fall of 2019 I began hiking with a few of my clients and immediately noticed a positive impact on the therapeutic process. As the world changed in 2020 I began meeting all of my clients outdoors. Today I offer both in-office and outdoor sessions.
What I find amazing about therapy outdoors is that there is plenty of space for whatever my clients are experiencing and, even without walls, there is a sense of safety and containment. Therapy outdoors allows for both talk and experiential therapy. It helps clients connect with a likely underutilized resource in their lives - the magic of simply stepping outside.
If you chose to try outdoor therapy, I'll send you a dropped pin for where we'll meet in Oak Mountain State Park. It's typically the same spot every time but sometimes we have to find a new spot. If you'd like to hike rather than sit for our session, just let me know ahead of time and I'll select a trailhead where we'll meet. The park is $5 cash only to enter and you might want to bring your own camping chair for your comfort though there are picnic tables available. If it's raining, we'll meet under a pavilion and if it's quite cold I'll provide small propane heaters.
I hope you'll give it a try and see how it feels to you. It's been a gift to me and my practice.
